Around the World with Kubik.
You've got the whole world in your hands.
tl;dr. A trade show game where the globe in your hands is the controller.
To emphasize Kubik’s global reach we designed a game for trade show attendees to test if they were paying attention in geography class.
All the best games are easy to pick up and don’t need instructions, and this game succeeds because picking up the globe is all you need to do to immediately understand the controls for the game.
That’s because I built custom electronics placed inside the globe that turned it into a game controller, passing the orientation of the globe to a WebGL game. I created the game software in a way that ensured the orientation of the world on the screen matched the orientation of the globe in the players hands, giving a tactile and powerful feeling of control.
On screen prompts shared facts about Kubik’s global achievements, telling the player to find far-flung locations by rotating the world in their hands.
A battery hidden inside the globe provided enough power for it to operate for several days before needing to be charged, and of course we had a back up globe ready to take over if the battery died unexpectedly or someone pinched the primary globe.
When not in use the globe controller levitated to create additional intrigue from show attendees.
